Introduction

The sculptures of five hundred arhats excavated in 2001 from the Changnyeongsa Temple site in Yeongwol. They have delighted people with their smiles and diverse expressions, reminding them of themselves or of loved ones.
The support and interest of large numbers of people at the special exhibitions held over the last two years in Chuncheon, Seoul, and Busan were overwhelming. In gratitude for this constant support, the Chuncheon National Museum is pleased to present the arhats once again in a newly furnished temporary gallery.
Five Hundred Arhats of Changnyeongsa Temple Site: Reflections of Myself will offer visitors a chance to take a journey reflecting on themselves and their personal feelings of joy, sorrow, hope, and anger shared with the five hundred arhats. It is also hopped that this exhibition will provide a space for you to take a break and heal yourselves.
